Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that an implant specialist places into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.

What Dental Implants Can Do?

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth
  • Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable

Will it hurt?

Most dental implant procedures involve less discomfort than a tooth extraction. When we see patients for follow up visits, most of them tell us how surprised they were with how little discomfort they had! (TRUE!) Our office is equipped with doctors and a staff trained to safely provide conventional methods of anesthesia.

How long it take?

Implant treatments range from the immediate replacement of an extracted tooth to over six months when jaw surgery and bone grafting is needed. The average treatment is three to six months. Most of the time required to complete implant treatment is taken up just waiting for the bone to fuse completely with the implant. This usually takes a few months and goes on below the gum line without any feeling or awareness. In more complex cases treatment may be longer.

Are dental implant stronger as naturalteeth?

In many cases, implants are actually considered stronger than natural teeth and provide full functionality. After treatment, patients will be able to enjoy all of their favorite foods while benefiting from healthy, aesthetically-pleasing prosthetic replacement teeth.

What are benefits of dental implants?

  • Enhanced ability to chew your food.
  • Replace removable full and partial dentures with fixed bridgework.
  • Improved appearance.
  • Increase in self-confidence.
  • Prevent further bone loss.

However, these are certain contraindications that may complicate or prohibit implant treatment. Patients with certain conditions, such as chronic diseases, heavy smoking or alcohol abuse may not be candidates for implants. Your doctor will determine whether or not this treatment is right for you after a complete physical exam and evaluation of your medical history.

No, there are no age restrictions for dental implants.

The fees for tooth replacement with dental implants will depend on several factors, including the number of teeth being replaced and the number of implants required to support your replacement teeth. It is important for you to know that you do not necessarily need an implant for each missing root. Some additional procedures may be required prior to the placement of your dental implants to ensure the long-term health of your dental implants. To obtain a specific fee estimate, it is necessary to have a thorough examination of your mouth. After a thorough diagnostic examination, we will recommend the treatment that is best for you and what your investment would be for the procedure. It is always best to visit us and then only we can actually arrive to a treatment plan best suitable for you.
